Breaking News: Buganda King Addresses Subjects

Buganda Kingdom erupted in jubilation on Monday, 1st July 2024 evening as King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II made his public address to his ever-loving subjects.

While delivering his televised 2:5-minute speech, a visibly strong King reassured his subjects of his steady recovery from illness, with hopes that he would be jetting back into his Kingdom soon.

“We have spent some good time without hearing from you while following the doctors’ prescription who asked us to be away from work,” the King who started by greeting all his subjects said, “our health is steadily improving and I hope to come back home soon.”

In his speech, the King further said, “we thank God who has kept us alive and Buganda Kingdom People at large for always praying for us and not losing hope amid immense trying moments.”

King Mutebi, expressed his gratefulness to Buganda’s premier Charles Peter Mayiga, all the Ministers in the Mengo government, and all King chiefs for their unwavering service during his absence.

‘’We thank the Katikkiro [Charles Peter Mayiga], Ministers, and Buganda chiefs for continuously serving the Kingdom for the time when we are absent from our country,” he said.

He informed all his subjects that although he is away from his Kingdom, he is keenly following all the goings-on both in his Kingdom and throughout Uganda, appreciating all his subjects for their involvement in Buganda Kingdom’s initiatives.

“We are closely following whatever is going on. We thank the people of Buganda who are actively involved in the Kingdom’s initiatives,” the King said, appreciating those sticking to norms and cultural dictates.

“We thank all those who have followed the norms and culture,” he remarked, while re-echoing his call for unity in his Kingdom, asserting that “and as we say, our strength is in unity (Amanyi gaffe, gali mu kwegatta). We ask our people to stay united. God bless you all”.

The monarch’s moving speech was met with widespread relief and celebrations given the rate at which his subjects gathered around screens in homes, and public spaces to catch a glimpse of their beloved leader.

The King’s familiar face and strong voice dispelled fears about his health, sparking cheers and tears of joy by his subjects who had been spoken into immense fear that the King had been either “abducted or very ill.”

Despite sequential updates about the King’s status by Buganda Kingdom chiefs led by Katikkiro Mayiga, there has been a sustained negative narrative by a section of people including prominent especially opposition politicians using both social and some mainstream media platforms with unclear, ill-intentions.

Clear and reasonable requests for King’s privacy by reasonable people both in Buganda and mainstream politics notwithstanding, ill-intentioned persons could amplify their ablaze, especially on social media with weird theories about King’s whereabouts, prompting Katikkiro’s latest strong warning to what he termed as sheer enemies of Buganda, wishing to toss Kabaka as a football to achieve political scores.
