Bobi Now Goes Bare Knuckles On Kabaka, Claims Museveni Bankrolls His Non-Appearance On CBSFM

Robert Kyaguanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine’s attack against the Buganda Kingdom, is far from over.
The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has launched a wounding attack on the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and key officials of the Buganda Kingdom led by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, claiming that President Yoweri Museveni “bribes” them to prevent him from appearing on the kingdom’s radio station, CBSFM.
Speaking at the NUP’s Iftar Dinner on March 26, 2025, Bobi Wine alleged that Museveni’s influence has compromised the kingdom’s leaders.
“My name is Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Ssabagulanyi… but they cannot host me at our radio [CBS], Buganda is under captivity,” a tough-talking Bobi who informed Muslim brethren that they feasted on a donated cow from “Hajji in diaspora” said.
Bobi Wine also claimed that Museveni influences the leaders within the Kingdom, the Kabaka appoints, which, he claimed has changed their mindset.
“Their [Mengo leaders’] minds are truly changed. The one [me] that fight for them, is seen as a bad person, and they see the one [Museveni] tormenting them as their friend,” Bobi said, recounting the quotation by Malcolm X, a Muslim American Minister who was a renowned human rights activist, “I am not surprised that shameful men run around Buganda making me a grandchild of Kayiira a bad person but making Museveni a good man.”
Affirming that he is not afraid to speak the truth to them, Bobi Wine told his Muslim audience, “It is easy because Museveni bribes them…”
Bobi Wine’s accusations are not new, as he has previously attacked the Kingdom for allegedly not supporting his bid to oust President Museveni. However, it is worth noting that Bobi Wine received overwhelming support in Buganda during the last election, with the region giving him 55 out of 57 parliamentary seats.
Despite his claims, CBSFM has consistently hosted NUP leaders, including Bobi Wine’s deputy president in charge of Buganda, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, every week. The radio station also covers NUP leaders in its daily bulletins, including Bobi Wine, the party Secretary General, David Rubongoya, and the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssennyonyi.
Bobi Wine’s history of using sickness situation to undermine kingdom officials is also worth mentioning. During an emotional period, Bobi incited a section of people in Buganda and diaspora to hold protests, including five clan heads, to travel to Namibia and demand the King’s whereabouts.
Ultimately, the protests planned by Bobi and executed by his emissaries overseas forced the Namibian Authorities to end the Kabaka’s medics’ recommended stay prematurely before he could fully recuperate.
In his typical grandstanding style, Bobi always claimed, the Kabaka had been abducted and that he needed to be rescued, which was all done in total disrespect of Katikkiro, who gave regular updates on the King’s situation.
When the Kabaka returned from his medical tour to Namibia last year, the Kabaka’s subjects were surprised to see no message in whatever form from Bobi Wine, welcoming Kabaka back into his Kingdom yet he was commanding the suspicious protests demanding his whereabouts.
Instead, Bobi Wine skipped the King’s 31st coronation anniversary to visit a cultural leader in Mbale, Eastern region.
During his speech, Kabaka rebuked Bobi Wine and other opportunistic politicians for attempting to “desecrate” and belittle the Kingdom.
Concerned Kingdom Subject Responds
On watching Bobi Wine’s March 26 disparaging attack on Kabaka, an anonymous concerned Kingdom subject recorded a response to Bobi Wine via social media, assuring him that although his blackmail is aimed at it, the kingdom will not be used to fight Bobi Wine’s political battles.
“We got your message, which you gave to your Muslim supporters while at the Iftar dinner, attacking the Kingdom of Buganda. However, I would like to assure you that nobody will use Buganda to fight political battles when you are comfortable in your bullet-proof cars, fancy offices with ACs, and enjoying your money from the government,” an equally tough subject said.
The subject also advised Bobi Wine to introduce an amendment to the Restoration of Cultural Institutions and Properties Act, to allow kingdoms to participate in partisan politics.
“The Buganda Kingdom will not repeat the 1966 mistake. Anyway, there is a law that bars traditional institutions like Buganda from partaking in partisan politics, which is why the Kingdom cannot directly oppose Museveni to support Bobi and NUP the way you want them to do.”
On the issue of Museveni appointing leaders in Buganda Kingdom on behalf of the King, the anonymous responder told Bobi Wine that he might also be part of those Museveni has determined to lead the opposition.
“You spoke about the possibility of your enemy trapping you with his leaders. To this, I agree, and I see it, that same bad leader can also give you an opposition leader to pretend that he is fighting the enemy, yet it is the enemy who planted him among us,” the responder fired back.
The responder also questioned why other radio stations do not host Bobi Wine.
“Is it CBS that stops them, too? The point is that the energy should be exerted on the one [Museveni] with power to stop radio stations from hosting you, not radios or their proprietors.”
Bobi Wine’s attack on the Buganda Kingdom has been ongoing since 2017, when he unsuccessfully attempted to grab the Kabaka’s land in Busabaala through dubious means.
