The Democratic Front (DF) Delegates Conference has officially kicked off at Laston Gardens in Masaka City, marking a key milestone in the party’s journey.
According to Kimaanya-Kabonera MP, who is one of the party’s organizers, Dr. Abed Bwanika, the excitement is evident as over 700 delegates from across the country gather to shape the party’s future.
The conference, happening on June 26, 2025, acts as a precursor to the party’s official launch scheduled for tomorrow, June 27, 2025, at the same location.
Interim DF spokesperson Moses Kasibante highlighted the importance of screening delegates before the conference begins.
“We want to ensure that only legitimate delegates participate in the conference,” he said.
Prior to the beginning of the conference, the screening process was comprehensive, and the delegates are now prepared to elect the party’s leaders.
Sixty-five (65) leadership positions are up for election, with delegates choosing their leaders to form the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) through secret ballots.
MP Bwanika emphasized the significance of this process, saying, “The party leadership must be elected through a secret ballot, not individual appointments.”
He further explained that this method guarantees that leaders genuinely represent the party’s values and principles.
The conference has also seen a notable development, as Lukyamuzi Batemyetto, the Masaka District chairperson, announced his switch from the National Unity Platform (NUP) to join the Democratic Front.
Batemyetto cited the lack of necessary skills in NUP’s leadership as the reason for his departure, stating, “I cannot continue to be part of a party whose leadership lacks the qualities needed to fight for the desired change.”
The DF Delegates Conference demonstrates the party’s dedication to democracy and inclusivity. As the conference progresses, the excitement continues to build, and the anticipation remains high.
