Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, the leader of one National Unity Platform (NUP) faction at Makerere-Kavule, was forced to jump over the perimeter wall of Mzee Moses Nkonge Kibalama’s home in Buwambo after being denied access by security at the gate.
According to sources, Bobi Wine accompanied by Lewis Rubongonya, the party secretary general, and Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the party’s deputy spokesperson, had last week, gone to visit Mzee Kibalama, the owner of the original NUP who has been ailing.
However, they were stopped by the security guard at the gate, prompting Bobi Wine to issue an order to his ruthless bodyguards to jump over the fence from behind Kibalama’s house and force Mzee’s guard to open the front door for Bobi to enter.
“What happened, these [NUP] men went to Mzee [Kibalama’s] home. When Kyagulanyi’s driver asked the askar to open for them, they were rejected. What Kyagulanyi did was to order his bodyguard to jump over the fence from behind, and force the Askar to open the front door,” the source said.
Once inside Kibalama’s house, Bobi Wine and his team made a desperate attempt to convince Kibalama to seek medical attention elsewhere, but the NUP original owner refused, insisting that he receives his medication from Bombo Military hospital.
Bobi Wine reportedly refused to agree, citing concerns that he would not be allowed to visit Kibalama for photo opportunities as and when they wish to at the military hospital.
It is here that Bobi Wine offered to cover Kibalama’s medical bills if he would agree to seek treatment at a hospital of his wife’s choice. However, this gesture was later revealed to be a trick as Bobi Wine’s true intention was to secure a photo opportunity with Kibalama.
The new NUP leader Bobi Wine then eventually left Kibalama with a measly Shs 200,000, very different from the Shs500 million he had reportedly promised.
The visit was not just a courtesy call, but was also a desperate attempt by Bobi Wine to salvage the situation. Kibalama’s camp took Bobi’s camp to court, seeking to repossess the party after unreliable Bobi failed to honor his pledges to the original NUP founders led by Kibalama, and Kagombe.
The original NUP members have blocked the new Bobi’s NUP plan to gazette the new party constitution with the Electoral Commission, citing that Bobi Wine’s team had smuggled in articles and pages for their personal benefit, not the institution.
Following the recent court appearance, some members of the new NUP headed by Bobi Wine admitted that they have no evidence to survive the ongoing case, prompting a proposal to settle the matter amicably outside court.
However, Kibalama’s side according to the acting Secretary General, David Ekalet, is adamant that they will not engage with Bobi Wine’s NUP and instead want the court case to be dealt with to its logical conclusion.
