Muhammad Luswa Luwemba, the former personal assistant to the late Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, has come forward to dispel allegations made by blubbering NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Bobi Wine and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana.

During a loud May 6, 2025, press conference at NUP headquarters, the duo claimed that former Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mathias Mpuuga was responsible for the arrest and lengthy imprisonment of Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana without trial.

However, on May 8, 2025, Luswa revealed the truth after giving Ssewanyana a six-hour ultimatum to address a press conference where he would elucidate his allegations against Mpuuga. When Ssewanyana failed to comply, Luswa took to social media to set the record straight.

“Ssegirinya never said that Mpuuga imprisoned him,” Luswa asserted, “I want to assure you that Ssegirinya, with whom I lived all the time, amid being his personal assistant, making research for him, handing his bag, picking his calls, moving with him in a car, etc., never said that Mpuuga imprisoned him.”

“As a person, I do not support Mpuuga, but it’s not true that he imprisoned Ssegirinya. I speak the truth the way it is, and I would like to tell the world that Ssewanyana made an incorrect statement. When I called him after the Kavule press conference, he told me that he had no option but to tell what the party president [Bobi] wanted because it’s a political season; I want to get the party ticket,” Luswa said.

NUP Boss Lured Ssegirinya Into Prison Trap

To the contrary, Luswa revealed that a top boss at NUP served Ssegirinya with summons from abroad in the Netherlands and convinced him to honor the summons without fail.

“By the time these MPs were summoned, Ssegirinya was in the Netherlands… One of the top bosses in the party [NUP] served Ssegirinya, and he met him in a sauna,” Luwemba revealed.

He explained, “this top NUP boss looked for Ssegirinya at night. Despite feeling overwhelmed by the gravity of the crimes he was being summoned for, yet he had never committed them, this top boss convinced him to accept and comforted him that it would be resolved soon with their [NUP bosses’] interventions. I swear, if Ssegirinya was here, he would be clapping for me because I am telling the truth.”

In his expose, Luswa re-echoed an already known fact that NUP leadership humiliated Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana after their release from prison on bail, questioning the circumstances under which they left prison.

“As they were still recovering from prison trauma at home, NUP launched a series of questions on the circumstances surrounding their release on bail,” Luswa said. “That confirms what Ssegirinya often told me, that NUP wanted him to die in prison.”

“That is the fact. They never wanted Ssegirinya and Allan out of prison, and everyone knows that, especially influential politicians who often visited Ssegirinya in prison,” Luswa said.

“Of course, even these strong politicians coming out now to tell lies that Ssegirinya confided in them are not truthful because they posed more hypocritical questions surrounding their release circumstances. Eventually, when they went to the party headquarters to address a press conference, you saw how key party leaders mocked them, accusing them of conspiring with Museveni,” Luswa said.

Indeed, NUP issued a statement and published it via its official communication channels, expressing unease with the way the two MPs had left prison, with Deputy Party Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro being equivocal on the issue of Ssegirinya faking sickness.

“Instead of standing with him, the party leaders and their bloggers said he was faking sickness!” Luswa exclaimed.

“When Ssegirinya and Allan left prison, his life deteriorated, but those at the party headquarters could not believe him,” Luswa said. “There was a function to unveil the party headquarters; one of the key leaders of NUP called and directed Ssegirinya to attend the function without fail.”

Mpuuga’s involvement with the imprisoned MPs Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana came after sustained pleading from them.

“Because he had just been appointed a LoP, he feared being trolled by social media on orders of Bobi Wine, he first pulled out of the issues until later,” Luswa explained.

“Mpuuga became very busy with the imprisoned MPs when he was making efforts to save Ssegirinya’s life after our press conference asking Parliament to reach out to the medical board after returning from the Netherlands, from where NUP propaganda forced him to return home,” Luswa said.

He added, “Mpuuga was the LoP, and being that medical board issues are protocol issues, we had to run to him to help us get Ssegirinya proper medication. Fortunately, he helped us in processing the medical board clearance, and Ssegirinya was flown to Nairobi for medication.”

Did Not Forgive NUP

Luswa revealed that Ssegirinya never forgave NUP officials, including its leader Bobi, for the humiliation.

“I would like to tell the nation that Ssegirinya never forgave NUP for humiliating him because they never wanted him out of prison even in Parliament,” Luswa said.
