General Sejusa To Bobi Wine: Delink Besigye’s Health From Your Partisan Politics

The Retired 4-star Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Army General David Sejusa has taken to his X account to issue a stern warning to Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the leader of opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) to “delink Besigye’s health from your partisan political goals.”

General David’s scathing rebuke of Bobi Wine was provoked by the abusive comments from the NUP leader’s social media foot soldiers. The online trolls had aimed at the General, accusing him of hypocrisy for remaining silent while his former bush war comrade and for whom he acted as a best man, Dr. Kizza Besigye, languished in prison.

The General’s heavy-worded statement comes amid growing concerns over the health of Dr. Kizza Besigye, a prominent opposition figure who has been detained by the authorities.

The General, feeling unfairly maligned, fired back with a blistering critique of Bobi Wine’s leadership style, condemning his “childish, stupid, ignorance and indiscipline” approach to politics.

General David’s words were laced with a sense of urgency, as he cautioned Bobi Wine against exploiting Besigye’s health for political gain.

“Do not tie getting him medical care with overthrowing Museveni’s government,” he said, “That is just muddle-headedness and tactical ignorance! If you do, then I am afraid you are jeopardizing Besigye’s life at the present moment.”

Sejusa also took aim at Bobi Wine’s approach to politics, describing it as “childish and stupid.” He argued that the “you must join us, or you are damned” mentality is counterproductive and alienates potential supporters. It narrows the political support and leaves you with Kwala-kwalas [lumpens],” he said.

General David’s criticism of Bobi Wine’s strategy was not limited to his approach to Besigye’s health.

He also condemned the opposition leader’s reliance on “insults and blackmail,” saying that “these do not win wars; numbers, ideas, and conviction do!” The General’s words were a clear call to action, urging Bobi Wine to adopt a more nuanced and effective approach to politics.

In conclusion, General David emphasized that the focus should be on securing Besigye’s release through legal means, rather than resorting to emotive appeals.

“Take Besigye before a competent court to get bail and let Besigye have medical care,” he said. “But I see many running all over the place like headless chickens, displaying coffin pictures! These did not save Ssegirinya!”

On February 17^th 2025, Bobi Wine issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to release ailing Dr. Kizza Besigye who is reportedly on hunger strike for the last seven days, or he calls for a demonstration to force the government do it.

THE BESIGYE POLITICAL QUAGMIRE; all getting entangled like in a Mare’s Nest: When there were celebrations after SC judgment, I warned that the battle was far from over. I warned that Trashing Army Courts (GCM) was a diversion (check posts). I warned then, as I do now, that this FIGHT is beyond Law; Courts; Judges; and even Rights. Underneath all the high-sounding words of Freedom, Rights, etc, lies a FIGHT FOR POLITICAL POWER! That is what makes this fight lethal and even EXISTENTIAL for some People. That means it cannot be won by posting coffins& photos of Besigye!

The present contestation becomes even more complex and dangerous because it seeks to restructure the military, as an Institution of State. UPDF took blood to build; it can safely be restructured by Consensus not recklessly running roughshod over anyone with different views! If cool heads do not come forward to help, it may lead to spilling more Blood.

And this is a real possibility! The current standoff is therefore beyond LEGALITIES; IT IS POLITICS, STUPID; IT’S POWER, STUPID! So, this is a fundamental fight which, it seems, few are even capable of comprehending!

IGNORANCE and INDISCIPLINE OF “KEYBOARD WARRIORS”: INSULTS AND BLACKMAIL DO NoT WIN WARS; NUMBERS, IDEAS, AND CONVICTION DO! At the end of the day, Political Fights, whether for FREEDOM, Rights, or even LIFE, like in the case of Besigye, become a Game of NUMBERS and IDEAS. NOT BUYAAYE!

The approach of “YOU MUST JOIN US, OR YOU ARE DAMNED” is Childish and Stupid, and is for CLOWNS not equipped with knowledge of how to win political struggles. It narrows the Political support and alienates People who would join you out of Conviction, so you are left with KWALA-KWALAS!

People who join the struggle do not have to love Besigye, or even be his friend; the majority owe him nothing! They too have their own struggles and trials. So, stop being PRESUMPTUOUS and ARROGANT! It is these you alienate who form the CRITICAL MASS, without which you are just clowning!

So STOP THE BUYAAYE OF INSULTING PEOPLE. People do not have to support you; they can even join the opposite side, it is their right. So convince them, do not INSULT and intimidate, because you have no power over them except for PERSUASION! If you continue like that you will call a demonstration and only 30 will turn up!

If the State has a case against Besigye, they will not free him as you are demanding, and I do not think Besigye is looking for forgiveness or surrender, but rather, to be taken before a competent Court where his innocence can be proven.

So the Clutter of “FREE BESIGYE” is misplaced! It should be TAKE BESIGYE BEFORE A COMPETENT COURT (HIGH COURT) TO GET BAIL AND LET BESIGYE HAVE MEDICAL CARE, but I see many running all over the place like headless chickens, displaying coffin pictures! These did not save Ssegirinya!
