Kabaka’s Return Rings A Bell Of Unity, Says Mpuuga

The Commissioner of Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga has said that Kabaka (King) Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s return to his Kingdom rings a bell of unity.  Mpuuga opines that it would also end rows from errant characters who have made it a habit to mislead people in Buganda Kingdom, using Kabaka’s situation.

“We hope and pray that the kind of noises that have occasioned his absence in his domain will cease, sense will reign back, especially from the errant characters that have made it a habit to mislead the young people in the Kingdom. That they will regain sense, respect His Majesty, his privacy, and his family as a human being but also as a leader who embodies our commonness, our values, our integrity as a people,” said Mpuuga.

Kabaka returned home in the wee hours of Monday from Namibia where he has been recuperating for the last three months. Before Namibia, the Kabaka earlier traveled to Germany where his health minders recommended that he recovers in a private place in Namibia, away from his usual royal duties and routines. At Entebbe International Airport, his Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, his sister Nnalinya Lubuga, daughter Nnalinya Victoria Nkinzi, and son Prince Crispin Jjunju received him.

The cheerful King was seen hugging his close family members at the airport, shaking hands with security detail, and warmly greeting the airport staff before stepping into his official vehicle.

Kabaka’s return ends bad-intentioned speculation about his well-being, which had sections of people in the public demanding his return on social media, while others demonstrated at different Namibian embassies. Also notable were a handful of clan leaders who recently traveled to the Namibian capital of Windhoek seeking to see the King, only to be denied access.

The Nyendo-Mukungwe MP who formerly served as a Youth Minister in the Buganda Kingdom’s Lukiiko expressed joy upon the Kabaka’s safe homecoming.

“On behalf of my people in Masaka City, on behalf of my family, I would like to thank the Almighty for safely returning His Majesty home. I am personally, overjoyed and excited by the safe return of His Majesty to his Kingdom to reign over his people, we immensely missed the King,” Mpuuga asserted, “we love him so much and he is the embodiment of existence as people with commonality, our values and aspirations.”

He added; “it is our duty not only to support him but to pray to God to give him wisdom to reign over his Kingdom in safety, tranquility, and development. Your Majesty, we welcome you back, we are behind you and we shall support and pray for you.”

Mpuuga’s message follows Katikkiro Mayiga who issued a press statement on Monday noting that the Kabaka’s return had been planned for 21 July 2024 and not due to a denial of visa extension in Namibia as stated in the media.

Mayiga further noted that the Kingdom is fully aware of a few individuals who are determined to desecrate Buganda’s heritage-possibly to destroy the Kingdom by persistently uttering falsehoods about the Kabaka’s condition, his officials, and members of the royal family.

“There are also others who are intent on weakening the institutions by which the Kingdom is upheld. Some of these come as friends with wide smiles while they intend to cause cracks within the different segments of the Kingdom. We know these people and you know them and we shall do all that is necessary to thwart their plans,” Mayiga emphasized.

The Katikkiro urged the people of Buganda to firmly deal with the decorators and disrupters.

“These detractors and disrupters instigated a handful of people to denigrate the Republic of Namibia at some of their missions abroad purporting to be motivated by the “love” they have for the Kabaka. We endured this kind of embarrassment even inside Namibia itself,” the Katikkiro noted before formerly apologizing to the government and people of Namibia for the actions of the disrupters caused to some of the missions abroad and the people of Namibia.
