Butambala MP Muwanga Muhammad Kivumbi found himself soaked to the skin in embarrassment and scandal as Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among unleashed an overflow of revelations regarding his clandestine dealings with President Yoweri Museveni.

The disclosure came during a campaign rally on December 29, 2025, in Kivumbi’s Butambala constituency, where Museveni appealed to voters to re-elect him.

As the air brimmed with excitement and tension, it was clear that the pretense Kivumbi had long upheld in his political career had crumbled, leaving him exposed to the disrespect of constituents who felt deceived and underrepresented.

At the center of the revelations, Kivumbi, a self-styled opposition leader who has skillfully navigated the thin line between criticism and collaboration with the ruling party, now faces the fallout from his questionable alliances.

The grandstanding pretense he maintained for survival came crashing down when Among narrated how, in May 2025, Kivumbi was engaged in a candid conversation with Museveni just hours before the controversial Coffee Bill was passed, using Among’s telephone device.

During the rally, Among revealed the details of a phone conversation between Kivumbi and Museveni, which had remained shrouded in secrecy, known only to the three: Kivumbi, Museveni, and herself.

“When the Coffee Bill was brought to Parliament, President Museveni used my phone to talk to Kivumbi, and Kivumbi is the one who advised [the president] on how the bill should be made,” Among revealed, posing a crucial question to the audience, “Whom should you blame? Kivumbi or the president?”

This legislation which Kivumbi advised Museveni on the best ways to pass it without serious resistance on the floor, granted the government increased control over Uganda’s vital coffee economy, significantly impacting the livelihoods of many in Buganda, an area where Kivumbi claimed to advocate for farmers.

Yet, in a bid to expose the truth, she decided to shine a light on the nature of Kivumbi’s entanglements with the presidency through declassifying what had remained classified information between the three individuals.

“This MP Kivumbi wants to think he has monopoly of abusing President Museveni yet during day time he pretends to be in the opposition, at night he is with us,” Among said and it her revelation attracted fervent cheers from the crowd.

Her assertion cut through the fabric of Kivumbi’s public persona, painting him as a figure that has maneuvered behind the scenes while publicly denouncing the very government he colluded with.

As the rhetoric intensified, Among raised touching questions that added to Kivumbi’s plight.

“How can an MP who has been earning hefty money for the last 15 years fail to build even a single latrine in any place of his constituency?” she asked, casting a harsh light on Kivumbi’s neglect of his fundamental duty to improve the lives of those he represents.

The rally turned into a platform for voicing the deep frustrations shared by the constituents of Butambala, who felt betrayed by an opportunistic leader more concerned with his position than the welfare of his people.

The spectacle unfolded as Among also addressed Kivumbi’s questionable choices in developmental initiatives, pointing out that he had invested in a luxurious hotel and a garden business in a far away Wakiso district while neglecting his constituency.

“We want to thank the president for always encouraging the leaders to develop where they come from,” Among proclaimed, underlining the responsibility Kivumbi failed to embrace. “Even if you are an opposition, you should be able to develop because when you look at Nsibambi Yusuf [Mawokota MP], he has opened Jalia City on Masaka road.”

Among didn’t shy away from criticizing Kivumbi’s living arrangements either. “The MP that they have here in Butambala does not even have a house in Butambala; he is a refuge here. He sleeps in his mother’s house,” she declared, further isolating Kivumbi in a narrative of neglect and failure.

Her words resonated with an audience aching for accountability, as they grappled with the reality of a leader who had strayed far from his responsibilities.

As the crowd reacted with disbelief and anger, Kivumbi’s future in politics began to look increasingly shaky. With the stark contrast between his public persona and the truths unearthed by Among, he is left to ponder a political environment that is now hostile to him. Once a charismatic figure standing tall among his peers, Kivumbi must now navigate the storm of public disdain and a shattered reputation, wrestling with the consequences of his decisions and alliances.
