Nabilah Declassifies NUP SG Rubongoya’s Intrigue, Party’s Regime Link Secrets

Former Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Naggayi has blown the lid off the inner workings of the National Unity Platform (NUP), revealing shocking secrets about the party’s true intentions and its Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya.
In a recent interview with Sanyuka TV, Nabilah exposed the party’s alleged puppetry and self-serving interests, reigniting the controversial debate on the party’s said links with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which was made public by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba early this year in X post.
General Muhoozi Tells All Bobi Wine’s Secret Dirty Dealings With Museveni
Nabilah joined NUP in 2021 after facing internal problems in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), where she had been a Member of Parliament representing Kampala, for 15 years.
She was head-hunted by Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the principal of NUP, who personally gave her the party flag and pleaded with her to run for Lord Mayor of Kampala, according to her Interview with Sanyuka TV.
“But mid the campaign, the principal of NUP which was still new, Robert Kyagulanyi head-hunted me, and he found me at my home with the party flag and he gave it to me personally and he pleaded with me to hold the NUP flag. So, it was like an emergency after my political vehicle FDC got issues, I had to find a vehicle to give me a lift, and that is what happened,” Nabillah said.
She asserted, “I accidentally joined NUP due to the internal problems that arose in the FDC. I had never involved in the NUP politics, and I never competed for that party flag. I heard Chameleon and Latif Ssebaggala not me.”
Race Aftermath
Despite losing the election to Erias Lukwago, Nabilah said that mobilized NUP councillors who had emerged the majority at the City Hall to strategize on the best way forward.
However, she was shocked when Rubongoya, ordered NUP councilors to collaborate with Lukwago instead.
“I had a lot of goodwill because NUP was still a new party, and after the elections, I mobilized NUP councillors who were the majority over the Lord Mayor, who is FDC, with just 3 councillors on the FDC ticket,” Nabilah said.
“But they got an order from above, who is Secretary General Rubongoya that instead of me, who held the party ticket, they should collaborate with Lord Mayor Lukwago. This made me wonder how a secretary general who has had a candidate in the race gets a working relationship with the one who won even before the swearing in!” Nabillah explained.
She revealed, “as I was still thinking about that, he quickly removed me from the Kampala NUP City Hall Forum on WhatsApp.”
Serving Few People’s Interests
Nabilah claims that NUP does not exist to serve citizens but rather the interests of its powerful few holding onto the party, and their masters.
“Being the fact that Secretary General is a bigger person in the political party, I chose to say little words, and take a step back as I continued studying the goings-on. Whenever you hear any blast, naturally, you will get shocked as you cautiously study the situations, and that is what I did,” Nabillah said.
After this, she quickly made a rejoinder on why she quit the NUP even before lasting 5 years within it.
“After a lengthy study, my conclusion is that NUP the way it is, does not exist to serve the citizens. It exists to serve the interests of those few with power within the party leadership and their masters,” Nabillah unequivocally stated.
This she said, explains why NUP leaders vehemently fought the former Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP) Mathias Mpuuga on cooked up issues.
“That is why I was not surprised when I saw NUP leaders vehemently fighting the former Leader of Opposition in Parliament [LoP] Mathias Mpuuga over issues they [NUP] largely cooked up to soil him,” she said.
NUP Not Different From FDC
Nabilah’s experience with NUP mirrors her observations of the FDC, which she also criticized for its ties to the ruling party.
“I have been a whistle-blower from way back, and I told people that it [NUP] would go to Museveni as FDC did because it’s leaders especially the Secretary General behave weirdly with the same characters as the one of the FDC” she added.
When asked if she’s disappointed with NUP, Nabilah replied, “In politics, you do not get disappointed, you just open your eyes wider.”
She declined to rejoin NUP, citing the party’s treatment of Mpuuga, a founder whom she said, contributed significantly to the party’s success in Buganda during the 2021 elections.
“if they could hound one of their founder [Mpuuga] who worked hard to give them significant victory in Buganda and moulding the party’s face after bringing in political novices, what of me who had nothing in the party?”
Secondly, she said the NUP had failed to grow beyond its headquarters in Kavule since leaders failed to invest in building healthy structures of the party to allow its normal functioning.
“Whenever you see a Secretary General in the political party who is the engine of the party behaving weirdly, take steps back. I waited to see how the party would function, would build structures to no avail. I am therefore, not ready to start another battle with a new party as it were with the FDC when I was whistle blowing about what you see in the party today,” she said.
