In a show of keen interest in the party’s ticket, over 80 aspirants at different levels have so far returned their expression of interest forms at the Democratic Front (DF) headquarters in the past two days.
However, the party leadership has issued a strong warning to its members seeking endorsement for elective positions, cautioning them against engaging in confrontational politics and acts that are against the party’s values and principles.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Namirembe on July 14, the party leaders emphasized that DF candidates must be political role models who should always embrace peace and address issues rather than resorting to normalized insults and character assassination by plyers in other political parties.
“We expect all nominated candidates to focus on explaining their manifestos to the electorate and not engage in confrontational politics, insults, or character assassination of other candidates,” said Muzafaru Ssentongo, the party’s Deputy Secretary in charge of Administration.
The party is committed to bringing back sanity in the country’s politics by practicing politics of critical thinking based on ideas, rather than blackmail and attacks on political opponents.
“The core principles behind the establishment of the DF Party were to give the country a new beginning where politicians and leaders focus on issues, not insults, abuses, harmful propaganda, or character assassination of others,” emphasized Moses Nkalubo Bulega, the party’s Vice Chairperson in Charge of the Buganda region.
Nominated Aspirants
Henry Lubowa, the chairperson of the party’s electoral commission, noted that the commission had received interest forms from over 80 individuals at various levels, ranging from members of parliament to local government.
“We are committed to ensuring that our party’s principles are upheld throughout the electoral process,” he added.
Among the notable figures who have submitted their nomination forms is Happy Nasaasira, a former FDC activist and KCCA councillor for Nakawa, who is vying the DF’s endorsement to contest for a member of Parliament for Nakawa West in the upcoming 2026 general election.
“My desire to contest is influenced by the lack of a strong voice for the people of Nakawa,” she said, “those currently in leadership are preoccupied with populist politics rather than serving the people.”
The party’s electoral commission has also received expressions of interest from other candidates, including Kisira Peter, who is contesting for the parliamentary seat for Iganga Municipality, and WK Muwata, who is vying for the Luuka North Parliamentary seat.
The DF’s commitment to promoting issue-based politics and civility is a welcome move in a country where confrontational politics has become the norm.
As the party’s candidates gear up for the electoral battles ahead, it remains to be seen whether they will heed the leadership’s call to shun dirty politics and focus on ideas.
