Parliament Gives Nod to New Auditor General, 2 Judges Of Industrial Court
The parliament’s committee on presidential appointments, Thursday, July 4, 2024, approved Edward Akol as the new Auditor General, taking over from John Muwanga who has held this position since 2007.
Edward Akol has been deputizing Muwanga and he has been in charge of audits at the Auditor General’s office.
A couple of days back, President Museveni Akol to replace Muwanga whose tenure is ending after clocking the mandatory retirement age.
The vetting committee which was also attended by Thomas Tayebwa, the deputy speaker, approved Judge Linda Lilian Mugisha Tumusiime and Anthony Patrick Wabwiire to commence their work at the Industrial Court which has been suffering from low manpower to effectively handle the backlog.
Vide her X formerly Twitter Account, Speaker Among who is the committee’s chairperson said, “the Appointments Committee of Parliament vetted the Auditor General-designate, Mr. Akol Edward, as well as Judges Linda Lillian Mugisha Tumusiime and Anthony Patrick Wabwire, who were nominated to the Industrial Court this morning. The committee’s report will be transmitted to the appointing authority as dictated by the rules.”
