Dr. Frank Nabwiso, a distinguished historian, scholar, and politician, has left an indelible mark on Uganda’s history books. Sadly, his remarkable life came to an end at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital, where he had been bedridden for some time. His wife, Christine Nabwiso, confirmed his passing.
Dr. Nabwiso’s illustrious career spanned academia and politics. He served as the Member of Parliament for Kagoma County in Jinja District from 2001 to 2006. Although he was unseated in 2006 by Fredrick Nkayi, Dr. Nabwiso continued to be a vocal advocate for democratic values.
In 2021, he contested for the Jinja City mayoral seat on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket, ultimately coming in second to National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Peter Kasolo Okocha.
As a member of the FDC’s special Elders’ Council, Dr. Nabwiso played a crucial role in resolving internal party disputes. Notably, he chaired the committee investigating allegations of FDC leadership’s receipt of government campaign funds for the 2021 general elections. His report cleared top party officials Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Patrick Amuriat of any wrongdoing.
Dr. Nabwiso’s dedication to public service and his commitment to democratic values have earned him a revered place in Uganda’s history.
As the nation mourns the loss of this remarkable individual whose burial arrangements are yet to be announced, his family, friends, and colleagues remember his deep knowledge of history, infectious passion for politics, and unwavering dedication to public service.
