The Path Ahead For MP Or President: Mpuuga Awaits DF Council’s Decision

Mathias Mpuuga, the President of the Democratic Front (DF), stands at a crucial crossroads that could redefine his political journey.

During a galvanizing community mobilization meeting in Kasanje, Masaka City on August 10, 2025, Mpuuga articulated his anticipation for the impending National Council meeting at the month’s end, and it is here, within this pivotal body, party’s  second-highest governance institution that the fateful decision will be made on whether Mpuuga will pursue re-election as the Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe or step boldly into the presidential race for the 2026 general elections.

Amid the momentous announcement which marked the first time to comment on his political fate Mpuuga inspired his loyal party supporters with an electric vision of the future.

“The National Council, which is the second-highest organ of the party, will take decisive actions on the key initiatives we will undertake in the upcoming elections,” Mpuuga proclaimed, accentuating the magnitude of what lies ahead.

The crowd was charged with excitement, as they churned with curiosity about the political direction in which their philosophy leader would take them.

“I have no doubt that it will be that National Council meeting to decide for me on whether I should remain as an MP, or I stand as a Presidential Candidate,” Mpuuga asserted, making it clear how major this decision would be not just for him, but for the heart of the Democratic Front.

His confident demeanor and resolute speech echoed the aspirations of his supporters, urging them to envision a transformative future.

With unwavering conviction, Mpuuga addressed his detractors, declaring, “Even my enemies know that I can manage all the things I set my eyes on.” His audacity shone through, as he issued a challenge to those plotting to dethrone him, “just come, and choose one of you who will be defeated squarely,” speaking to the strength of the DF which was compelling, as he boldly asserted, “the next MP of Nyendo-Mukungwe will be from the DF at all means.”

Mpuuga’s unwavering commitment to Masaka radiated throughout his speech. “We have served this [Masaka] city with all our energy and determination,” he proclaimed, shedding light on their significant achievements. He highlighted the disconnect between current leadership and the community’s aspirations, emphasizing the urgent need for transformative change if Masaka is to reach its true potential.

In a powerful declaration, Mpuuga vowed, “You will never hear again that a leader in Masaka has grabbed the City’s land for him or her to earn money.” This promise struck a chord with the audience, many of whom have suffered from the shadows of corruption and mismanagement that have marred their community during the current leadership of Masaka City thus vowing to  instill a new caliber of leadership which, ignited hope among the supporters for greater future of the city.

The energy intensified as Mpuuga paid tribute to his fellow party members, particularly Nyendo Mukungwe Division Mayor Mulindwa Nakumusana, Kimaanya-Kabonera’s Dr. Abed Bwanika, and Juliet Kakande.

“She [Kakande] has not been in the country for the last two weeks, but she is coming back soon,” he announced, linking her tireless advocacy against corruption to his broader vision for Masaka’s political future.

He said, that together, they embody the Democratic Front’s unwavering commitment to integrity and community-focused leadership.

The spirit of unity surged among DF supporters as Mpuuga emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts towards a common goal.

“We are going to give you serious leaders who have dreams under the DF,” he assured the crowd, framing the campaign not just as his personal ambition, but as a collective aspiration shared by the party and its constituents.
