Katikkiro Reveals Secrets Behind Bobi’s Sustained Vicious Attacks On Him

The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has finally shed light on the reason behind National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine’s sustained vicious attacks on him.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sanyuka TV on April 29, 2025, Katikkiro revealed that Bobi’s hatred towards him stems from his refusal to declare the 2021 election in Bobi’s favor and support subsequent street demonstrations.

“When elections concluded, NUP pressured me to declare that the vote was rigged,” Katikkiro Mayiga said, “they demanded that I to declare that NUP had won and that they wanted people to take to the streets to demonstrate so they could rescue their victory.”

The Katikkiro questioned the logic behind Bobi’s demands, asking, “How could they tell me to declare such things? Is it I who counts the votes? Am I the electoral commission [chairperson]? If you feel you are cheated, go to the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Byabakama, is it Katikkiro that organizes and conducts the elections?”

Katikkiro Mayiga’s revelation provides context for the sustained attacks Bobi launched against him over the years, especially in the aftermath of the 2021 presidential elections.

Despite facing attacks from the sitting government officials who accused Kingdom officials of openly supporting NUP in the 2021 elections, Bobi paradoxically targeted the Katikkiro with verbal attacks post-elections.

The background to this story reveals a pattern of unrelenting attacks by Bobi against Katikkiro Mayiga and the Buganda Kingdom, as an institution.

In a song titled ‘Nalumansi’, Bobi scathingly attacked the Katikkiro, accusing him of being bought by the regime leader.

Again, Bobi has consistently accused the Kingdom leaders of betraying his presidential ambitions, despite being a Muganda himself.

In October 2024, at a thanksgiving party he organized for ex-Katikkiro Dan Muliika, Bobi likened himself to Ben Kiwanuka, saying, “Owekitiibwa Muliika, when the King was away in Namibia, I was doing the right thing of calling upon people to demand his whereabouts, but the Buganda officials branded us Buganda enemies. In this era, I am the Ben Kiwanuka who was betrayed.”

Similarly, in March 2024, at the burial of the late Omutaka Bossa Lomwa, Bobi stated, “Putting the 60-year-old history behind us, let us talk about this, today the whole country supports us [me] change, but Buganda is still the problem” because of “Abebitiibwa.”

He added, “whenever I go [other regions], they tell me it is the Baganda who brought the whites here…we had a chance to lead Uganda, but it was the Baganda who conspired against Ben Kiwanuka and took Obote him in King’s palace at Bamunanika leaving Ben who started a Buganda party and the rest is history.”
