The Democratic Front (DF) Electoral Commission has announced a shift in its nomination process for party candidates, decentralizing the exercise to regional levels.
The party’s decentralization arrangement was revealed by Henry Lubowa, the chairperson, electoral commission during a press conference at the DF headquarters in Namirembe on July 29, 2025.
He said, the decision aims to expedite the process, save time, and alleviate the burden on candidates who previously had to transport supporters and nominators from their areas to the party headquarters in Kampala.
According to Lubowa, the targeted regions include Soroti, Busoga, Busia, and others. This strategic decision is expected to streamline the nomination process and make it more accessible to aspiring candidates from different parts of the country.
Numbers grow
As of July 29, 2025, the DF Electoral Commission had nominated a total of 239 candidates, including those vying for positions in Parliament and local government councils holding the DF flag in the forthcoming 2026 general elections, and the number is expected to increase as the exercise continues in the coming days.
Some notable candidates who were nominated on the eighth day of the DF’s internal exercise include Robert Mukiibi, who is contesting for the Lubaga North MP seat, and Mr. Ssenyonga Moses, vying for the lord mayor of Kampala City position.
Others include Muhindo Kimasu, running for the Kampala Central mayoral seat, and Bulyaba Lydia Lucky, contesting for the woman councilor position for Kira Division in Kira Municipality.
After being nominated, Mukiibi expressed his determination to ensure that Lubaga North gets a strong voice in Parliament. He emphasized that the current MP is too silent, and he aims to fill this gap by being a more vocal representative for his constituents.
The exercise continues to attract a wide range of aspiring candidates from across the country, and the DF Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring a smooth and transparent process.
