DF President Mpuuga Hails MP Kakembo As Special Leader Amid Reelection Bid

The Democratic Front (DF) President Mathias Mpuuga has praised Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament also party’s whip in Parliament Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa as a special leader, highlighting his vision and capacity to sense danger beyond self-interest.
Mpuuga made the flattering comments on August 4, 2025, as Kakembo returned his expression of interest forms before the Henry Lubowa-headed Electoral Commission to seek reelection as the MP for Entebbe Municipality at the party’s headquarters in Namirembe.
“Since these nominations started, I had never come around to receive one of us in a special way. But the return of forms by Hon. Micheal Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, MP for Entebbe Municipality, who has also been appointed as the whip of the DF in Parliament, is a testament to the sense of trust, belief, the DF has in his leadership,” Mpuuga said.
Mpuuga expressed gratitude to the people of Entebbe Municipality for electing Kakembo, emphasizing that these are not ordinary times and require leaders with vision and capacity.
“Today, I am here to address Entebbe Municipality. Thank you for your leader. These times in our country are not ordinary times. They require leadership of leaders with the vision and capacity to sense danger beyond self-interest. To think through the needs of the people, to understand what is needed now, and in Michael, we have one of the special leaders in this country,” Kakembo’s leader said of him.
The DF President tasked Kakembo to give the party a leader in every sub-county in Entebbe Municipality as part of efforts to revolutionize the country.
“As the country transitions from misrule to the rule of the people, I am here to send you in Entebbe and beyond to paint Entebbe green and orange,” Mpuuga asserted.
Kakembo Is Confident
Kakembo, who was accompanied by dozens of supporters, expressed confidence in his ability to win the race again.
“I have come to return my expression of interest forms at my DF party as flag bearer in Entebbe Municipality. I am waiting for other party members to also return their forms to compete. If they win, I will support them, if I win, I expect them to do the same as we move on,” he said.
The incumbent MP emphasized his connection to the constituency, saying, “I feel I am capable of winning the race again because I have always done so. I am a born resident of Entebbe Municipality, I been nurtured in that area, and I went to Kiwafu Primary School… they are going to vote for their son.”
Kakembo expressed gratitude for the trust the people of Entebbe have placed in him and pledged to continue serving them.
“If I have been able to serve them well in just four years of learning the job, how about if I get the second term which I would serve after learning?” he asked.
The MP also dismissed concerns about competition from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), stating that he is not worried because they have always competed with them in Entebbe Municipality.
If reelected, Kakembo said it would be his last term of service, emphasizing that he is tested and proven.
With his nomination, Kakembo is set to face off against candidates from different political parties and independent candidates.
