The Democratic Front (DF) has notably expanded its presence in the Eastern region following the defection of Ngora District LC5 Chairperson, Odongo Mike Lo’Asio, from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

This strategic move occurred on August 25, 2025, when Odongo was formally welcomed into the party by Pascal Amuriat, the deputy president in charge of the Eastern region, at the DF Head Office in Namirembe.

The new crossing manifests a pivotal moment for DF, as Odongo was nominated as the party’s aspirant for the LC5 chairperson position in Ngora District.

This addition enhances DF’s representation in the Teso sub-region and cements its commitment to mobilizing local support ahead of upcoming elections.

Otala Joseph Ebukulasi, the DF aspirant for the Serere Parliamentary seat, heralded Odongo’s defection as a transformative moment for the district.

He stated, “Chairman Odongo’s decision to join DF is proof that our message of people-centered leadership is winning hearts,” stressing the party’s growing influence in the area.

Amuriat expressed his enthusiasm in welcoming Odongo, noting that his leadership would bolster the party’s efforts.

He declared that Odongo’s decision will “add strength, and unity to our struggle for a just and democratic Uganda,” reinforcing the collaborative spirit within the party.

In his address, Chairman Odongo affirmed his dedication to DF and its vision.

“I have listened to the people of Ngora, and seen the future in the DF. I pledge my total commitment to work with DF to transform our communities and uplift our people,” he remarked, signaling his commitment to effecting positive change in the region.

The party’s national chairman, Samuel Lubega Mukaaku, represented the party President Mathias Mpuuga during the event, extending a warm welcome to Odongo and promising the party’s unwavering support as he steps into his new role.

This defection signals a strengthened resolve within DF to establish strong, inclusive leadership across Uganda, paving the way for future developments in the political terrain of the Eastern region.

Additionally, over 30 aspirants returned their expression of interest forms, and duly nominated by the party’s Electoral Commission from districts of Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Gomba, Ngora, and Kampala.

Tomorrow, the Electoral Commission will travel to Greator Masaka to handle aspirants from the districts Masaka City, Masaka district rural, Lyantonde, Lwengo, Bukomansibi, Ssembabule, Kyotera, Rakai, and Kalungu which forms Greater Masaka.
