Police, NUP Meeting Over Leadership School Flops

A scheduled meeting with the police at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, initially set for July 4th, 2024, between the leadership of the leading opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), was summarily postponed to Friday, July 5th, 2024.

However, NUP leaders who were ready to hear from police chiefs and negotiate the school’s stay in operation were further shocked upon getting information that the meeting had been postponed yet the police invited them for the meeting.

Various NUP leaders had primarily expressed utmost shock after being summoned by the police to clarify the activities of their newly launched leadership school security personnel were reluctant to send the same invitation to leaders of other political parties, running institutions like NUP leadership School.

In June 2024, the NUP party leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, inaugurated the leadership school at the former party headquarters in Kamwokya and they have always insisted, that its operations are legal.

The school aims to groom party supporters and members for leadership roles, making them civically aware of political, cultural, economic, and human rights matters.

Alex Mufumbiro, the deputy spokesperson for NUP, stated that all activities at the school comply with the law.

Meanwhile, NUP has notified the police about their intention to resume nationwide political tours. However, FileFactsUg has learned that the police have not yet responded.

Party tours were recently suspended after police accused NUP leaders and supporters of failing to adhere to traffic and other guidelines, which caused an accident that killed and injured several people who were traveling to Masaka to attend a mobilization campaign.
