Concerned Citizen Now Petitions Cavendish University Over Bobi’s Law Degree
A concerned citizen, Ahmed Sserunjogi, has petitioned the Academic Registrar of Cavendish University seeking information about the law degree allegedly earned by National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
In his petition dated July 29, 2024, Sserunjogi requested specific details about Mr. Robert’s enrolment, course attendance, scores, and examination records.
Sserunjogi’s inquiry comes after social media reports claimed that Bobi Wine, graduated is among a cohort of students gearing up to graduate with an LLB degree from Cavendish University.
Sserunjogi is also seeking clarification on the requirements for enrolment and graduation, as well as records of Bobi’s academic performance.
The petition was copied to several authorities, including the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE), the Inspector General of Government (IGG), the Director of Criminal Investigations, and the Vice Chancellor of Cavendish University.
Sserunjogi cited the Access to Information Act 2005 and Article 50(2) of the Constitution of Uganda as the basis for his request.
This development follows recent online celebrations by opposition NUP supporters after their leader reportedly graduated with an LLB degree. However, it is worth noting that the opposition leader initially graduated with a diploma in Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) from Makerere University.
The country eagerly awaits Cavendish University’s response to the petition, which has sparked intense public interest. The university’s response will likely shed light on the authenticity of Bobi Wine’s law degree and the institution’s enrolment and graduation processes.
The petition has ignited a debate about academic integrity and transparency in higher education institutions. As the public awaits Cavendish University’s response, many are left wondering about the implications of this inquiry on the opposition leader’s credentials and the broader political landscape.
